Ingredients

White Sauce

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 2 cups Whole Milk
  • To taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Crushed
  • 3/4 cup Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper ground
  • 4 cups Whole Milk

Vegetables

  • 2 cup Carrots Chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup Green beans Chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup Corn
  • 1 cup Split peas

Put it together

  • 1 1/2 cup Mexican Blend Cheese Shredded

Steps

White Sauce

  • Keep a non-stick pan on low heat and add butter to it.
  • Once the butter melts add the flour.
  • Toss the flour around with a spatula so that it is toasted evenly.
  • When it turns slightly golden add 1/2 a cup of milk and mix it thoroughly so that there no lumps in the mixture.
  • Slowly add the rest of the milk while continuing to stir the mixture and ensuring that it does not stick to the bottom of the pan.
  • The sauce will thicken as you keep stirring.
  • Add salt, sugar and pepper and stir and then turn the heat off.

Vegetables

  • Microwave all the chopped vegetables and corn for 5 minutes.

Put it together

  • Add the steamed vegetables to a glass casserole dish.
  • Pour the white sauce over the vegetables and mix it so that it evenly coats them.
  • Cover the dish evenly with shredded cheese.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Place the casserole dish in the oven and let it bake for 20 minutes.
  • The cheese should be have turned golden brown as you remove it from the oven with a mitten.
  • Serve it hot!

Tips

If the white sauce becomes lumpy then you can always add it to a blender to smooth it. Just let it cool a bit before adding it to the blender.
